I lied. I watched the game today mostly because there wasn’t anything else on. But all you needed to know is the Mets had the best offensive performance is a long time, they had their first series win in a long time and the home run apple apparently needs time to recharge and thus it didn’t rise after a back to back home run, upsetting fan everywhere. Also the bullpen still likes to keep it interesting.
I wanted to do something a little different going into the All- star break so for today’s CotG (Card of the Game), I have a pack battle between 2009 Topps Series 2 and 2009 Upper Deck Series 1, both retail. The winner, of course, is the pack with the CotG.
The Topps Pack:
Prince Fielder
Cecil Cooper- I hate mangers card in baseball sets.
Adam Kennedy
Ryan Freel
Matt Guerrier
Koji Uehara- I am pretty sure I have this card for my PC.
Legends of the Game Mickey Mantle
Vladimir Guerrero Topps Town
Josh Willingham
Clint Hurdle
Brian Bannister
Magglio Ordonez
The Upper Deck Pack:
Jermaine Dye
Kelly Johnson
Ryan Dempster
Hunter Pence
Ryan Garko
Billy Butler
Alfonso Soriano Team Checklist
Robert Parnell
Kevin Jepsen USA Baseball
Carl Crawford Documentary- Why is there a Documentary card in this pack?
Francisco Rodriguez Season Highlights
Brandon Phillips Team Checklist
Melky Cabrera
Jaime Moyer
Craig Monroe
Adrian Beltre
Todd Wellemeyer
Alex Rios
The best card of the Topps pack is definitely the Legends of the Game Mickey Mantle. If there weren’t so many old timer cards (for the lack of a better word), like Babe Ruth and Mickey Mantle, in recent products, this card could have been special. The card overall look great. But Mickey Mantle cards are now a dime a dozen. For the Upper Deck pack, the best of the bunch is the Bobby Parnell rookie card and it is the CotG. It was either that or the K-Rod card but he was pictured as an Angel. As expected, Parnell was a little inconsistent but he exceeded expectations for the most part. Now he has a huge role to fill with J.J. Putz going on the DL. He hasn’t quite stepped up yet but I fully expect he will cement himself to be the setup man sooner than later. So Upper Deck wins this pack battle, but I have to say Topps has better inserts.
