Random Pack Break: 2009 SPx Baseball

I am kind of disappointed that the Knicks lost to the Lakers today. It was close all the way to the fourth but then the Lakers show why they are the best team in the NBA right now. The Knicks face the almost equally tough Mavericks next.

I haven’t had much success with SPx in the past but I’m willing to give it a clean slate. Plus it was only thing remotely interesting that I haven’t gotten already and I got a decent discount on them. So here is four packs of 2009 SPx Baseball.

Pack 1:
Michael Young
Chirac 20th Anniversary- Ugh
Andrew Jones Dual Jersey- Zzzz
Joe DiMaggio’s Career Highlights 111/425- Interesting
Alex Rios

Pack 2:
Joba Chamberlain
Ian Kinsler
Final Game at Boston Garden 20th Anniversary
Lance Berkman

Pack 3:
David Wright
Randy Johnson
Kareem Abdul- Jabbar 20th Anniversary
Roy Oswalt

Pack 4:
Russell Martin
Dustin Pedroia
Greg Maddux 20th Anniversary
Aramis Ramirez

SPx is a hit or miss product (but I guess all products are to some degree or another) and I swung and missed. If you can’t see it too clearly, the Andrew Jones jersey card is damaged near the jersey window which is kind of a bummer (not that Andrew Jones is a star or anything). Even with the discount (I think I paid $5 maybe a little less per pack for them), it is still overpriced (but to no fault of the shop owner). Packs only have 4 cards in a pack (and one of them is a 20th Anniversary card) and the jersey cards are mostly worthless. Upper Deck still has a fascination with the letter X and every year the base year feels the same. Overall I not too impressed with this year’s product.
