First off be sure to check out my review of 2010 Topps UFC which just came out yesterday on my other blog Inasectv. Topps has another winner on their hands.
Anyways I have done this with my baseball and basketball autos before and I figure to see what fight card I can come up with using my growing MMA autograph . I personally think this is a rather strong if not a little unorthodox card.
First off of course you got to have to have Bruce Buffer as the announcer.
Rashad Evans vs Lyoto Machida
This is the rematch to see if the first fight was a fluke. Of course Evans/ Machida 1 was Lyoto Machida’s finest knockout but Rashad Evans was very dominant (if not a bit boring) against Rampage Jackson. If Evans beats Shogun and if Machida beat Rampage this fight is a possibility but I think they would eventually tangle with each other again sooner or later no matter what happens.
Co Main Event:
Shane Carwin vs Randy Couture
Now this is where it gets a little unorthodox. Carwin needs an opponent after his rather embarrassing loss to Brock Lesnar and what better way to make a name for yourself and to jump back into title contention than beating a legend. I know this is kind of throwing Randy Couture into the wolves but other Heavyweights are booked or injured and The Natural is always very game so never count him out. If not Carwin maybe Forrest Griffin vs Randy Couture?
Kimbo Slice vs Bobby Lashley
Bobby Lashley is a huge draw with Strikeforce and Kimbo Slice was the same with the UFC so it makes the perfect freakshow fight. Of course both are coming of big losses and their careers are clouded with uncertainty so both needs a win to continue to have a career in MMA. Kimbo is transitioning to boxing so realistically that makes this fight highly unlikely but you never know.
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira vs Brandon Vera
The little brother of the more famous Rodrigo Nogueira is a rising star after a vicious knockout of Luis Cane in his UFC debut but unfortunately didn’t do as well against Jason Briliz. Rogerio Nogueira faces a very tough opponent in Ryan Bader next and win or lose he would still need another win to move up to the elite of the very crowded Light Heavyweight division. Which brings us too Vera. Like it or not, The Truth is the gatekeeper of the UFC Light Heavyweight division so this match makes sense. Vera may have to beat Thiago Silva first to make this fight worth while for Nogueira so we’ll see.
Martin “The Hitman” Kampmann vs Anthony “Rumble” Johnson
Rumble Johnson was one of my favorite fighters and this fight matches him up with another fighter who isn’t afraid to bang. I’m surprised this fight hasn’t happened already. But unfortunately it looks like the Hitman is going to face Jake Shield instead. In short, he won’t win that fight.
Other options include Ken Shamrock vs Dan Severn (a legends fight), Todd Duffee vs Marcus Jones (prospects UFC released that I liked), Stephan Bonnar vs Matt Lindland (mid- tier fighters with storied careers) and Jim Miller vs Sam Stout (which could actually be a good fight). Maybe they can be in the preliminary card. I also have Frankie Edgar vs BJ Penn 3 on deck but who wants to see BJ Penn lose to Edgar three straight?
