MTG Brewer: Vizkopa Guildmage and Exquisite Blood Combo

Since Vizkopa Guildmage was first spoiled, brewers everywhere were trying to make the Guildmage and Exquisite Blood combo work. It rare nowadays for Wizards to printed a 2-ish card infinite combo (you need another way to gain life or have your opponent lose life) and Exquisite Blood jumped up from like $0.15 to $4 overnight. But since then no one could really figure out how to build a deck around it. It is a quite an expensive combo and fairly easy to disrupt so any deck focusing on getting the combo out as fast as possible would probably suck.

Here is my take on it. The theory is similar to Omnidoor Thragfire deck. Step 1 ramp, step 2 sweep, step 3 draw or search for your kill cards, step 4 cast Omniscience and cast all your kill cards, step 5 profit!

4 Farseek
3 Chromatic Lantern
1 Ranger’s Path
2 Glided Lotus

Sweep and Stall:
2 Terminus
2 Merciless Eviction
2 Rolling Temblor
2 Fog
3 Thragtusk

Draw and Search:
4 Urban Evolution
2 Thoughtflare
3 Increasing Ambition

Kill Cards:
1 Omniscience
1 Griselbrand
1 Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker
1 Vizkopa Guildmage
1 Exquisite Blood

2 Steam Vents
1 Overgrown Tomb
1 Blood Crypt
2 Glacial Fortress
2 Isolated Chapel
2 Sunpetal Grove
2 Rootbound Grag
1 Woodland Cemetery
9 Forests
1 Plains
1 Kessig Wolf Run
1 Alchemist’s Refuge

Vizkopa Guildmage and Exquisite Blood Combo

4 Centaur Healer
1 Fog
1 Magmaquake
2 Rhox Faithmender
1 Curse of Death’s Hold
1 Rakdos’s Return
2 Curse of Echoes
1 Gisela, Blade of Goldnight
1 Door to Nightingness
1 Silklash Spider

I kind of just threw the deck together with the loose cards I had so the mana base is especially shakey (although I haven’t been mana screwed yet in testing). You definitely want more shocklands and definitely replace 2 Thoughtflares maybe 2 Urban Evolution for 4 Sphinx’s Revelation. But even with the decklists above I had some good games against control deck. Against aggro decks you have to side out a ton but it has all the tools. Maybe you want Rhox Faithmender too. Yea the deck needed the Rhox Faithmender.
