Cards No One Wants: Ruined Yankees Cards

This is an ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

Because I am from New York and I collect cards, my friend from out of state surprised me with a 2009 Yankee Team Set. (I am a Mets fan.) I really can’t complain since I got two cards (Wang and Matsui) for my PC. What I can complain about it is poor quality of the cards. Below is a high quality scan and I hope you can see it but it is not dirt on those cards. The ink from the back got on the front of the next card ruining both cards. About half the cards were like this. The worst one is the actually supposed to be the best card, the Mickey Mantle variant. Still I kind of collect Mickey Mantle (mint condition or not) but the three cards below are available as per Card No One Wants to any Yankees fans. These cards don’t really mean much to mean but Topps still got to work on the quality control.

Cards No One Wants: Mike Rozier Just Autographs

I haven’t done it in awhile but this is an ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

I was looking through my baseball autographs for a future post, my all- auto all-star baseball team (which is going to be similar to my NBA All- Auto team) and boy I have a lot of crap autographs. I am a bit of a prospector and buy a lot of minor league products so I guess this had to be expected. For every Johnny Cueto autograph, you can get a Mike Rozier auto, who really has no shot of making the bigs. There is a much more successful Mike Rozier who plays football and if I didn’t mixed them up this Mike Rozier also played football. He turned down a football scholarship to sign a large draft bonus so I guess that was a big oops for everyone involved. I am not quite sure but he might be finished with baseball since I don’t see any 2009 stats. Also, Just Minors never could figure out how to incorporate the sticker autos into the card design and 2005 might be their worst year.

Cards No One Wants: Any Nationals Cards

This is an ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

To me the worst team in baseball is the Washington Nationals. I was briefly a fan of the Nationals because I like to root for underdogs. But I quickly learn that there are simply incompetent. They never seem to improve their team or farm system and never seems interact with the fans and the players in a positive way. With the misspelled jerseys and the Elijah Dukes and the little league fiasco, the Nationals seem to be getting worst. Without a history like the Royals or the Pirates I can’t imagine anyone collecting the Nationals as their PC and I don’t think Steven Strasburg will solely save them. They need a lot of help.

Cards No One Wants: Metal Universe Wesley Person

This is going to be an ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

This is a prime example of a strange tacky looking 90’s insert. The background look like something you would see in a fantasy or D&D book (and a cheesy one too). Unfortunately the background is not too clear because of all that foil. It may just be me but my first thought about this card was that Person is like Frodo in Lord of the Rings and he is has to throw to the One Ring into Mount Doom in Mordor seconds before evil prevails. He’ll be successful 40.7% of the time.

PersonMetal

CGI have gone a long way since then. But unfortunately the designs of basketball set haven’t, as evident by the Pavel Podkolzin Rookie Scrapbook card. It looks like a cross between a Brady Bunch and Adam’s Family episode.

Cards No One Wants: Antoine Walker Jersey/ Card Frame

This is going to be an ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

I got this from a repack awhile back and it is advertised as a card and a piece of authentic jersey in a display frame. The wording about the jersey piece is rather suspicious.

“The enclosed piece of jersey was cut from an Authentic Jersey from the player pictured on the front. This Authentic Jersey was obtained from The Upper Deck Company.”

First of all even though it is from Upper Deck who knows what authentic means? It does not say game used or even event worn. Aren’t the jerseys you can buy at Modell’s labeled as authentic?

Second Antoine Walker is a fringe basketball player with a couple good years. Right now Walker is washed up and no longer in the NBA. I really can’t remember any highlights in his career.

Third the card is not even glued straight although the refractor- like card itself look pretty good in person.

Cards No One Wants: Robert Traylor Autograph

This Cards No One Wants post is going to be a little different. My brother is a huge Knicks fan and his favorite player is quickly becoming Danilo Gallinari. His birthday is coming up, so I got him this as a joke.

traylor

If you have no idea where I am going with this, click here. The basic gist is the Italian Stallion got ran over/ flatten by the 300+ pound “Tractor” Traylor during a summer league game. Even though he shown great potential, Gallinari has not been healthy since and recently had to be shut down for the season.

As a huge Mets fan, I am sure he’ll get me an Adam Wainwright (the guy who ended the 2006 Mets season) autograph for my birthday.

Cards No One Wants: Stephon Marbury 2008-08 NBA Hot Prospects

This is going to be an ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

I can’t imagine who would want a Stephon Marbury as a Knick card. Stephon Marbury has to be one of the most hated basketball players in NBA right now. (Although as a Knicks fan, I might be a little biased) With his ego, selfish behavior and the lack of results, he represents everything that was wrong with the Knicks. With his $20 million plus salary he has no reason not to play. Worst is now that he is essentially being paid to play for a competitor in the same division. That and no one seems to collect basketball cards any more.

Also, similarly to UD Future Stars, why call it Hot Prospects when I only get 3 prospects in a blaster (and only one significant)?

I am 85% sure no one wants this card. Marbury was a great player at one point and who knows he might have a good postseason for the Celtics. And maybe someone wants it to burn.

Cards No One Wants: Billy Martin Topps 1986

This is going to be an ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

This is a prime example on why cards and gum don’t mix. The gum in this pack actually seeped through damaging a couple of cards. (Also FYI, the store I bought this pack from had a disclaimer not to eat the gum. I found that amusing.) It took card companies way too long to figure this out.

You might not see it too well in the scan, but there is a very noticeably gum imprint on the card.

I am 90% sure no one wants this card. Prove me wrong…

Cards No One Wants: Traci Brooks Tri- Star TNA Impact Insert

This is going to be a new ongoing segment on cards no one should want. However, if I am proven wrong, these cards are available free to the first person who leaves a comment on why they want the card and emails me their address.

This is a card of Traci Brooks’ lips!?!? When I first got this card from a pack, I was like WTF and I still nod my head in disapproval every time I see it. Other cards from this insert set are almost equally bad with cards on wrestlers’ muscles and tattoos. But something about her lips framed like that makes it so disturbing.

I am 99% sure no one wants this card. Prove me wrong…
